Vinification
traditional medoc method with about 3 weeks fermentationon skins in thermo-regulated concrete vats covered with epoxy resin and stainless steel
Élevage
12 months with 25 to 30% new barrels. The estate selets plots and wines to make a "cuvée Prestige" of a few thousand bottles witch enjoys a maturing process using more new barrels and witch provides greater keeping potential. The second wine, called Saint-Sauveur is matured in vats so it is suitable for drinking sooner.

Histoire du château
The château Barateau vineyard exidet in the 18th century. Abbot Barateau, priest of Saint-Laurent, came in 1820 to bless the first stone of this winemaking estate. The owners of the time took the blessing to the extreme, giving their château the churchman's name. The service of wine has remainded its only creed over the years. The vineyard, planted on a good chalky-clay south-facing hilltop, is on the road to Saint-Julien. The estate belonged successively to the Véron, Tandonnet, Thollon, Pla and Leroy who undertook the modernisation of the facilities and the doubling of the cellar capacity to cope with the acquisition of the Saint-Sauveur vineyard in 1989. The château Barateau bought back in 2011 by Mr. LI.
