The history of the Château
Legend attributes this former hunting lodge dating back to the 17th century, to Armand Duplessis, the Cardinal of Richelieu’s nephew. In 1830 Mr Fabre gave the property to his son Pierre, who in turn gave it to both his own son, Pierre Léon and his daughter, Mrs Hauchecorne in 1861. His son was to become the owner of Duplessis Fabre, and his daughter of the upper vineyard, Duplessis-Hauchecorne. The domain remained in the Hauchecorne family until 1924 when it was sold to Mr. Delors, a wine merchant. He turned it into a model domain after substantial investment and the domain was awarded Cru Bourgeois status in 1932. In 1960 a group of shareholders all belonging to the company SC Les Grands Crus Réunis, acquired the domain. Lucien Lurton, becoming the majority shareholder in 1983. His daughter, Marie-Laure Lurton, took over as director in 1992, when the family properties were divided among his children. In June 2003 the château was once again awarded Cru Bourgeois status in the new classification system and the vineyard was granted the Terra Vitis status.
