Sweet, intense oaky nose, blackcurrants and some menthol. Crunchy, ripe red berry fruits and fresh acidity on the palate which has purity and a long finish. One of Stephen Brook top three : Martine Cazeneuve has worked hard to improve quality of her Médoc properties. The 2009 Paloumey was excellent, and the 2010 is its equal...

Dark, grippy and very tarry, with lots of pebbly tannins driving underneath the layers of boysenberry, steeped fig and blackberry fruit. Ample baker's chocolate and dark tobacco fill in the remaining space. This will need a little cellaring to round into form, but remains a very solid, muscular version. Drink 2014-2021 Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. Very dark purple. Scented. Lots of fruit and intensity without extraneous sweetness. What’s not to like? Quite racy.

Histoire du château
At the beginning of the XIXth century, wines of Château Paloumey had acquired an indisputable reputation. The 35 ha’ estate then belonged to Octave Dupuy, a wine merchant who entirely renovated it. The wines soon ranked among the best Crus Bourgeois as confirmed by Féret’s 1st rating in 1850. Unfortunately, the vineyards were uprooted in the 1950s after the dark years of wars. When Martine Cazeneuve purchased Paloumey and decided to revive the estate in 1989,in partnership with the FCO company, it was no small undertaking: there were no more vineyards and no more cellars. After years of hard work, commitment and passion, the estate was successfully brought back to life and now extends over 34 ha.
