The history of the Château
Château La Grave is located in Blaignan, not far from the village of Saint Estèphe. It’s the only village to be 100% AOC Medoc classified. The vineyard’s soil is made of clay and limestone resting on a calcareous basement, the sedimentation which dates back to the Pleistocene era. The large winemaking potential of Château La Grave is essentially due to the very high density of grapes per hectare (8500) and excellent location of its different parcels. Vineyards, with an average age of 45 years, are planted with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 59% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, for an average yield of 40 hectoliters by hectare. The history of Château La Grave goes back three generations with plantations in 1954, 1975 and 2009. The complete renovation of the cellar was started in 2015, and will be completed in 2018.
