Tasting Notes
16/20 - Jancis Robinson
some attractive fluidity. Lively, zesty. Lightly aromatic and silky.
91-94/100 - Wine Spectator
Blueberry and floral aromas follow through to a full body, with superfine tannins and a long, flavorful finish. But very refined and subtle. Love the texture. —J.S

The history of the Château
This château is named after a 13th C tower situated in Soussans, remains of this medieval construction which was built to protect its owner, lord Jehan Colomb. This edifice remained in the Colomb family until 1390, when his descendant, Jean Colomb, who was due to inherit the domain, was executed.Several illustrious local families followed suite in ownership: the Durforts, the Garros and the lords of Mons in 1488. It was in 1972 that Lucien Lurton bought the tower with its vineyards from the Clauzel family. The new owner moved heaven and earth in order to establish this domain, all the while running his numerous other châteaux. In 1992, his daughter, Marie-Laure took over the domain. Her first priority in terms of investment was in the vineyard: heightening the trellising in order to increase the canopy surface, replacing vines where necessary and uprooting the Cabernet Franc to plant Merlot and then Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2003 vintage received the ‘Terra Vitis’ certificate, which acknowledges compliance with high standards set in the choice of viticultural methods that respect the environment. The new Cru Bourgeois classification system revised in June 2003 has awarded the Tour de Bessan with official Cru Bourgeois status now.
