Tasting Notes

Very ripe, fresh and lively, offering plum, cassis and black cherry compote notes mixed with lightly singed sandalwood and warm stone accents. Shows excellent cut on the finish, with the stony edge hanging on. A wine with character. Best from 2014 through 2024. 10,000 cases made. –JM

A major sleeper of the vintage, this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot is very concentrated, with dense blackberry and cassis as well as hints of espresso roast, chocolate and camphor. A terrific value at under $20 a bottle, this wine is deep, rich and performing like a classified growth, which is well above its humble pedigree. The vineyards of Retout are located in the middle Medoc, not far from the village of Cussac-Fort-Medoc.

Ripe fruity nose with blackberries and licorice. Vanilla, fresh wood and violets. Full and with a wonderful ripe juicy fruit on the palate. Already enjoyable, but tannins will integrate better in some years. Try in 2016.
