Winemaking
Selection by hand of the fruits as they arrive to the cellar from the vineyard. Vinification is managed by parcels or identified plots of vines. Fruits are sent by gravity into the fermenting vats, adopted to the size of the parcel. All is temperature controlled automatically. The marc is taken out of the vats after fermentation or special rolling belts to preserve quality. We use a pneumatic press for this stage. Average time for fermentation is 20 to 22 days.

Tasting Notes
- "Decanter World Wine Award – Recommandé "

"With the exceptional climatic conditions of the 2010 vintage, Château du Cartillon shows us all its potential. It offers us a lovely ruby colour, brilliant with shades of fuchsias, and a complex, fruity and persistent nose that gives off delicate blackcurrant and blueberry aromas. On the palate the wine is supple and wellbalanced, and delivers beautiful notes of blackberry jam and aromas."

The history of the Château
The Château du Cartillon is located on the itinerary which follows the Médoc Châteaux in the Bordeaux area, in the village of Lamarque, halfway between the Margaux and Saint-Julien vineyards. In the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation, the 69-hectare property adjoins three prestigious representatives of the Moulis appellation : the Châteaux of Poujeaux, Maucaillou and Chasse Spleen. The quality of the soil, which has long been recognised as such, gave the Château du Cartillon a reputation as early as the 19th century. In 1850 this Cru Bourgeois was clearly mentioned in the first edition of the Féret Guide. At that time the property was owned by Monsieur Alexandre de Bethmann (1805-1870) who was Mayor of Bordeaux from 1867 to 1870. It is reported in the Guide : "located on a gravely terrain, producing one of the best wines in Lamarque". The Société Fermière des Grands Crus de France, the Grands Chais de France Group, took over the destiny of the Château in 2007.
